What I have done for many years now, is to use the Location tab, under Properties, of each of my user folders (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos), off of the boot drive, and onto a standard 7,200 HDD (or for laptops, onto a different SSD than the boot drive).
